Do I need to book an appointment?

We recommend booking a showroom consultation to ensure one of our team members is available to guide you through the selection process. This allows us to dedicate time to understanding your project and provide tailored recommendations based on your requirements.

My project is only small. Can you still help?

Absolutely. While AMU Stone regularly delivers large-scale residential and commercial projects, many of the projects we complete are kitchen renovations, bathroom vanities, laundries, fireplaces and smaller residential upgrades.

Whether you’re selecting a single vanity top or specifying stone throughout an entire development, you’ll receive the same level of service, expertise and attention to detail from our team.

What happens during a showroom consultation?

Your consultation is an opportunity to explore materials, discuss your project and compare options across natural stone, porcelain and manufactured stone surfaces. Our team will guide you through the selection process, explain the characteristics of different materials and help identify options suited to your design, application and budget.

What should I bring to my appointment?

If available, we recommend bringing any selections you have already made, including cabinetry samples, flooring, paint colours, tiles, tapware finishes, joinery drawings, plans or inspiration images. These items help us provide more informed recommendations and ensure all selections work cohesively together.

Which showroom should I visit?

Our Wodonga Showroom is ideal for clients wanting to explore material options, colours, finishes and applications across natural stone, porcelain and manufactured stone.

Our Wangaratta Selection Centre is home to the AMU Natural collection and large-format slab displays. If you are selecting natural stone and wish to view full slabs, Wangaratta is typically the most suitable location.

Can I view full slabs during my consultation?

Yes. Clients selecting natural stone can view full slabs at our Wangaratta Selection Centre. Viewing stone in its entirety allows you to appreciate the scale, movement and characteristics of the material prior to fabrication.

How long does a showroom consultation take?

Most consultations take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the stage of your project and the number of selections being considered.

Do I need to know what material I want before visiting?

No. Many clients visit before deciding between natural stone, porcelain or manufactured stone. Our team can explain the differences between materials and help determine the most suitable option for your project.

Can my builder, designer or cabinet maker attend?

Absolutely. We regularly conduct consultations with homeowners, builders, designers, architects and cabinet makers to ensure all project stakeholders are aligned throughout the selection process.

What is AMU Natural?

AMU Natural is our exclusive collection of natural stone, including marble, quartzite, granite, limestone and dolomite sourced from leading quarries and suppliers around the world.

Can I purchase stone outside of the AMU Natural collection?

Yes. While AMU Natural forms a significant part of our offering, we also source, fabricate and install natural stone from a broad network of trusted suppliers throughout Australia.

Is every natural stone slab different?

Yes. Natural stone is formed by geological processes over millions of years, resulting in variations in colour, veining, movement and mineral composition. No two slabs are identical.

What is the difference between marble, quartzite and granite?

Marble is often selected for its movement and elegance, quartzite for its durability and natural beauty, and granite for its strength and resistance to wear.

Do natural stone slabs require sealing?

Most natural stones benefit from sealing to assist with stain resistance. Recommended sealing requirements vary depending on the selected material.

Can I choose exactly where the veining will appear?

In many cases, yes. Through slab viewing and digital templating, we can plan vein direction, bookmatching opportunities and feature areas before fabrication begins.

What is the difference between porcelain and manufactured stone?

Porcelain is a ceramic surface made from refined natural materials and fired at extremely high temperatures.

Manufactured stone is an engineered surface created using mineral-based formulations and advanced binding technologies.

Is porcelain suitable for kitchen benchtops?

Yes. Porcelain is highly resistant to heat, staining, moisture and UV exposure, making it suitable for kitchen benchtops, splashbacks, vanities and many other applications.

Why is porcelain more difficult to fabricate?

Large-format porcelain requires specialised machinery, experienced tradespeople and precise manufacturing processes. Not all stone fabricators have the equipment or expertise required.

What brands of porcelain and manufactured stone do you work with?

AMU Stone works with a range of leading suppliers across porcelain and crystalline silica-free manufactured stone surfaces.

Can porcelain be used outdoors?

Yes. Porcelain is UV stable and suitable for outdoor kitchens, wall cladding and entertainment areas.

Does manufactured stone contain silica?

All manufactured stone products supplied by AMU Stone comply with current Australian regulations and are crystalline silica-free.

Fabrication & Installation FAQs

How does the process work?

The process typically begins with material selection and quoting. Once cabinetry or substrates are ready, our team completes a digital template before fabrication. The finished surfaces are then delivered and installed.

What is digital templating?

Digital templating uses advanced measuring technology to capture precise site dimensions. This information is used to create accurate fabrication drawings for a precise fit during installation.

Why is slab selection important?

For natural stone projects, slab selection lets clients view the movement, veining and characteristics before fabrication and helps plan vein direction, bookmatching and feature areas.

What edge profiles are available?

AMU Stone offers a wide range of edge profiles, including pencil round, arris, mitred, provincial and custom profiles.

Can you fabricate curved stone?

Yes. AMU Stone can fabricate a variety of curved and custom stone applications.

Why should I choose AMU Stone for porcelain?

Porcelain is one of the most technically demanding materials to fabricate. AMU Stone has invested in specialised porcelain manufacturing equipment, including three waterjet cutting machines.

Do you complete commercial projects?

Yes. AMU Stone works across both residential and commercial sectors, including private homes, multi-residential developments, hospitality venues, retail fit-outs, offices and large-scale commercial projects.

Can you fabricate stone supplied by another supplier?

Yes. We regularly fabricate and install stone specified or supplied through external suppliers.

How long does fabrication and installation take?

Timeframes vary depending on the material, project complexity and current production schedules. Our team can provide an indicative timeframe during quoting.

How do I clean my stone surfaces?

Warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner are generally recommended for everyday cleaning. Detailed care and maintenance guides are available for all surface types supplied by AMU Stone.

Can natural stone stain?

Natural stone is porous and can be susceptible to staining if spills are left unattended. Prompt cleaning and appropriate sealing help minimise this risk.

Can I place hot pots directly on my benchtop?

While many stone surfaces have excellent heat resistance, we recommend using trivets or heat protection to preserve the surface and reduce the risk of thermal shock.

Will my natural stone change over time?

Natural stone may develop subtle changes over time depending on the material and environment. Many clients see this as part of its natural character.

Does porcelain require sealing?

No. Porcelain is a non-porous surface and does not require sealing.

Does manufactured stone require sealing?

Most modern crystalline silica-free manufactured stone surfaces do not require sealing due to their non-porous nature.

Do you supply and install stone?

Yes. AMU Stone manages the complete process, including material selection, digital templating, fabrication and installation.

What types of projects do you work on?

AMU Stone works across residential and commercial projects, from bathroom vanities, laundries and kitchen renovations to custom furniture, new homes, multi-residential developments, hospitality venues and large-scale commercial projects.

Do you work with builders, designers and architects?
