KITCHEN STONE FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best surface for kitchen benchtops?

Natural stone, porcelain and silica-free engineered stone each offer different benefits. The right choice depends on your design preferences, cooking habits, maintenance expectations and budget.

Can natural stone be used as a splashback?

Yes. Natural stone and porcelain are suitable for splashbacks behind both gas and induction/electric cooktops, subject to the appliance manufacturer’s installation requirements.

Can engineered stone be used as a splashback?

Yes. Silica-free engineered stone can be used as a splashback. However, because it contains resin, Australian installation requirements generally require a minimum 200mm clearance from the nearest gas burner. It can typically be installed as a full-height splashback behind induction and electric cooktops.

Are curved benchtops possible?

Yes. Curved benchtops and islands can be created in many natural stone and engineered stone surfaces. While porcelain isn’t suitable for true curved fabrication, radiused corners and curved detailing can still be incorporated into the design.
