Everyday Cleaning
Simple Care For Everyday Living
Keeping your manufactured stone clean doesn’t need to be complicated. Regular cleaning helps prevent residue, spills & everyday marks from building up on the surface.
For everyday cleaning:
- Use warm water with a soft cloth or sponge
- Use a mild detergent or neutral-pH cleaner
- Clean spills as soon as possible
- Rinse away cleaning product residue
- Dry the surface with a clean microfibre cloth
- Use spray-and-wipe products specifically labelled as suitable for stone surfaces
Avoid acidic, abrasive or harsh cleaning products, as these may dull or damage the surface.
Take particular care with oils, coffee, tea, wine, food colouring & strongly coloured foods. Avoid allowing spills or residue to dry on the benchtop.
Food Preparation
Protect Your Surface While You Cook
A few simple habits can help protect your manufactured stone from unnecessary scratching, marking & heat damage.
Always use a chopping board when preparing food. Cutting directly on the benchtop can scratch or mark the finish while also dulling your knives.
Avoid dragging heavy cookware, appliances or rough objects across the surface. Lift them instead, particularly around joins, edges & cut-outs.
When working with oils, acidic ingredients or strongly coloured foods, use trays, bowls or protective mats to minimise direct contact with the stone.
Never place hot cookware directly onto the benchtop. Use a suitable trivet or heat-resistant mat.
Removing Stubborn Marks
A Deeper Clean When You Need It
For dried spills, stubborn marks or occasions where your surface needs a deeper clean, use a suitable cream cleanser with a Scotch-Brite Non-Scratch Sponge.
For best results:
- Wet the sponge with warm water
- Apply a small amount of cream cleanser
- Gently squeeze the sponge to create a foam lather
- Clean using light circular motions with a flat hand
- Avoid excessive pressure or repeatedly rubbing one area
- Rinse thoroughly until all cleanser residue has been removed
- Buff dry using a clean microfibre cloth
Always test cleaning products on a small, inconspicuous area first.
Suitable cream cleanser & non-scratch Scotch-Brite sponges are available through AMU Stone.
Caring For Different Finishes
Understand How Your Finish Behaves
Matte & textured stone finishes can show fingerprints, oils, water marks & cleaning streaks more readily than polished surfaces.
This is a natural characteristic of the finish & does not indicate a fault with the material.
For ongoing care:
- Clean regularly with a damp microfibre cloth
- Dry the surface thoroughly after cleaning
- Use cleaning products sparingly
Heat Resistance
Heat Resistant Doesn’t Mean Heat Proof
Manufactured stone is heat resistant, but excessive heat or sudden temperature changes may damage the surface.
Always use a suitable trivet or heat-resistant mat beneath:
- Hot pots & pans
- Air fryers
- Slow cookers
- Electric frypans
- Other heat-producing appliances
Chemicals To Avoid
Protect Your Stone From Permanent Damage
Strong chemicals & solvents can permanently damage manufactured stone surfaces.
Avoid using:
- Oven cleaners
- Drain cleaners
- Paint removers or strippers
- Strong solvents, including products containing methylene chloride
- Highly alkaline or high-pH cleaners
- Harsh bleach products unless specifically approved by the manufacturer
If accidental contact occurs, rinse the affected area immediately with plenty of clean water.
If a mark or issue remains, contact AMU Stone or the product manufacturer for further advice.
Outdoor Use
Manufactured Stone Is Designed For Indoor Applications
Manufactured stone is not UV stable & is therefore unsuitable for outdoor use.
Prolonged exposure to sunlight can result in fading, discolouration or changes to the surface over time.
Outdoor installation or prolonged UV exposure will also generally void the product warranty under most manufacturers’ warranty conditions.
Chips, Cracks & Repairs
Get Damage Assessed Before It Gets Worse
Chips, cracks or damaged joins should be assessed by a professional.
To help protect your surface:
- Never sit, stand or climb on your benchtop
- Take particular care around edges, joins & cut-outs
- Avoid impacts from heavy or hard objects
If a piece of stone chips away, retain the loose piece where possible. It may assist with the repair process.
Contact AMU Stone for advice if your stone surface becomes damaged.
Manufactured Stone Warranty
Know What Your Warranty Covers
Keep your invoice & product information somewhere safe for future reference.
We recommend checking the stone supplier or manufacturer’s website for their specific warranty conditions & any product registration requirements.
Supplier warranties generally cover verified manufacturing defects only.
Damage caused by impact, heat, misuse, movement or stress, including cracks or chips, is generally not covered under manufacturer warranties & does not necessarily indicate a fault with the product, fabrication or installation.
